One of my favorite parts about living on the prairie is that while you may not always be able to spot wildlife, you can almost always hear them.

In the morning we wake up to a chorus of birds chirping and meadowlarks singing; while hiking transects, we hear a cacophony of prairie dogs squeaking at our arrival; and at night we get to fall asleep to crickets chirping and coyotes yipping in the distance.

Here are a couple of clips of what we get to hear daily in the field.
