Landmark is ASC’s groundbreaking project to provide “boots on the ground” support for the American Prairie Reserve management team. Wildlife survey crews consist of skilled outdoors men and women who live and work on Montana’s northern Great Plains, collecting data that informs APR’s conservation management decisions.

Again and again, our Landmark volunteers arrive in Montana’s prairie country expecting it to be flat and uninteresting, and they depart after a stint at American Prairie Reserve with the place completely intertwined with their souls.

Dramatic sunsets across the huge skies, wildlife, microclimates hidden in the coulees
and draws, the Little Rocky Mountains on the western horizon, the quirky, friendly small towns nearby, and the camaraderie among crew members – these details leave a lasting impression.

We interviewed Teri Ness, a member of the Landmark June crew, as she was about to head home to Clover, South Carolina.

“I’m going to miss everything about this place,” she said.
