Adventure for Conservation:
Volunteer Field Day in San Timoteo Nature Sanctuary
On Monday, April 21, 2025, from 1-4pm, join Adventure Scientists and Sierra Club Military Outdoors for a Volunteer Field Day at San Timoteo Nature Sanctuary.

The goal of Sierra Club‘s Military Outdoors is to improve the lives of military members, veterans and their families through connections with the outdoors and inspire members of this community to become outspoken champions for environmental conservation and justice.
Adventure Scientists ensures the availability of critical field data that accelerates conservation and climate solutions. We achieve our mission by mobilizing and training outdoor enthusiasts and local communities to collect high-quality scientific data that are difficult to access, require too large a scale, or are too costly to obtain with traditional methods.
The Challenge:
The state of California is part of the 30 x 30 initiative — a goal to protect 30% of the land and sea area of the state by 2030. To do this, conservation priority areas need to be identified. A biodiversity survey of the state will help with this effort.
The Solution:
You can make a difference! Join our field day to help collect soil samples that will be analyzed for eDNA – environmental DNA that will reveal which organisms are present in the soil. The soil samples we collect will be processed at the University of California Santa Cruz to possibly discover new species in the soil.
