Tree sampling wrapped up this fall when the leaves turned. Your samples are with our research partners now, and there’s nothing left to collect.

If you searched your zone and came home without a sample, that counted too. Confirmed absence tells researchers where beech and butternut are not growing, and that shapes the map as much as a sample does.

From here, the samples go to the Purdue University to be screened for the genetics behind disease resistance. The trees that hold up become the stock for replanting. We’ll email you when we have their findings.
