Join us for a one-of-a-kind nighttime insect collection in the Death Valley area!
On July 21, help protect California’s biodiversity in one of the world’s most extreme environments by volunteering to collect insect samples with Adventure Scientists and Stovepipe Wells Resort. Daytime temperatures here can be the hottest on Earth – but we’ll be at a higher-elevation site with cooler conditions – and working under the stars from 8 PM–1 AM when insects are most active.
Volunteers will get a brief training, then head out with guides to collect samples while enjoying incredible stargazing in this remote desert landscape. All tools are provided—no experience needed! Collected samples will be shipped to the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History for species identification.
This special event is part of Adventure Scientists’ year-long California Biodiversity project with Stillwater Sciences and the California Institute for Biodiversity, running through August 2025.
